what price too high?

Today begins a new journey for me. One that I have been preparing for my entire life. I'd even go as far as to say that it is one that I've ventured down it's path a time or two before...but for a multitude of reasons (all bad and sin/self-centered)...followed another path away from the main goal. The goal of this journey is one of self-discovery. The discovery of the true self that God intended for ALL of us to have back in the Garden of Eden. Now I know that since sin entered the world through that one fateful incident, "There is none righteous, no, not one." - Romans 3:10 I guess what I'm saying by the destination of this journey is not a simple attainable goal...but it is as the title line for this webpage says...I am searching for the true face of God. I believe this is a journey that our soul embarks upon the instant we take in deep our first breath of air here on this planet. From that instance, we are incomplete. We grow...we learn...and our soul aches for the fellowship it shared with God in the garden...for this was our purpose...the reason of our creation. There truely is a "God-shaped" void in each of our souls. Now this journey...the one Billy Graham refers to as the "Great Quest"...is one that we MUST embark upon if we are to find the greatest abundance of joy in this life that we can ever attain. For it is this mountain-top at the end of this trail that holds the key to experiencing what Christ spoke of when He said "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." - John 10:10 (emphasis mine) When I read that verse, it almost leaps off the page to me what the first words of Christ were..."The thief comes ONLY to steal and kill and destroy...". Doesn't sound like too much of a nice guy, eh? And yet daily...and even MULTIPLE times EACH & every day...we are accepting the things, people, relationships, thoughts, feelings, emotions...the...stuff...that this very thief offers to us...to our corrupted flesh...and EACH and every single time we accept...we are committing idolatry. Yup...you read correctly...each and EVERYtime we sin by accepting these "flashy" "fun" things the thief offers...we break the very two commandments that God felt were of such utter importance...they headed up the list of 10 that he gave to Moses ("You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments." - Exodus 20:3-9 (emphasis mine).
